COVID 19 UPDATE

The ACT Chief Minister recently announced that from midnight on 29 May 2020 the ACT will enter Phase 2.1 of recommencement for community sporting activity. This Phase allows for the re-activation of indoor sporting activities and venues.

Depending on the size of the indoor venue it also increases the allowable number of people in a “small group” to 20 participants/players plus coach or instructor in an indoor setting.

During this phase:

  • consideration needs to be applied to ensure hygiene and physical distancing can be maintained at all times, including at entry and exit points

  • the 1 person per 4 square metre rule still applies

  • the physical distancing of 1.5 metres between participants and other groups must be maintained.

The recommencement of sporting activity and facility operations should be supported by a “Return to Play in a COVID-safe Environment” plan. Guidance is available at https://www.sport.act.gov.au/about-us/covid19-news .

During this Phase Judo ACT supports the IJF PROTOCOLS OF MEDIUM VIGILANCE – Level 3 Vigilance Guidelines, but it is not mandatory to wear face masks. Under this level 3, no contact is allowed with judo activities restricted to:

  • tendoku-renshu (individual work)

  • fundamental motor and technical skills of Tachi-Waza and Ne-Waza (individually)

  • learning of Ukemi (fall)

  • postures, movement, coordination, mobility, core-stability, taiso, etc.

The IJF protocols also provide essential measures and sanitary recommendations & requirements for Level 3 Vigilance activities which must be followed where at all possible.
