Judo ACT Role and Mission

About

Judo ACT is the peak body for Judo in the ACT, so the role/mission page should explain clearly who you are, what you do, and who you serve. Here’s website-ready content you can adapt.

Who we are

Judo ACT is the recognised governing body for Judo in the ACT and surrounding region. It represents local Judo clubs, coaches, athletes, officials, and volunteers, and connects them with Judo Australia and the wider national community.

Our focus is to support safe, high-quality Judo for children, teens, and adults at every level—from people stepping onto the mat for the first time through to experienced competitors and coaches.

Our Role

Judo ACT exists to:

  • Support clubs and members: Provide guidance, resources, and a shared framework so local clubs can offer safe, welcoming, and well-structured Judo programs.

  • Develop athletes and coaches: Create clear pathways for player development, from grassroots to high performance, and support ongoing education for coaches and officials.

  • Run events and competitions: Coordinate the ACT competition calendar, including local tournaments, grading events, and training camps, in line with national standards.

  • Promote safe and inclusive practice: Uphold strong standards around child safety, member welfare, and inclusive participation across all clubs in the region.

  • Represent the ACT in Judo Australia: Act as the link between local members and the national body, ensuring ACT voices and needs are heard in national decisions and programs.

Through this work, Judo ACT helps ensure that Judo in the ACT is safe, consistent, and enjoyable, wherever people choose to train.

Our Mission

The mission of Judo ACT is to grow and support Judo in the ACT by:

  • Making Judo accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

  • Providing quality experiences on and off the mat, built on respect, discipline, and mutual welfare.

  • Building strong pathways for athletes, coaches, and officials to reach their potential.

  • Strengthening community through the values of Judo and the friendships formed in our dojos and at our events.

Everything we do is guided by the core Judo principles of respect, safety, and continuous improvement, so that Judo in the ACT remains a positive force in people’s lives.

How we work with clubs and members

Judo ACT works in partnership with local clubs and volunteers to:

  • Share information about training, events, and opportunities for members.

  • Provide policies, templates, and support for governance, safety, and good practice.

  • Offer development opportunities through seminars, courses, and camps.

Members typically engage with Judo ACT through their local club, but anyone can reach out to learn more about Judo in the ACT, how to start, or how to get involved as a volunteer, coach, or official.
